“Rainbow Graduates Shine: QC’s Historic Celebration of Inclusivity and Equality”

As I walked through Quezon Memorial Circle on Saturday, I couldn’t help but feel a sense of pride and joy as 394 “rainbow graduates” shone bright in their authentic selves. The historic event marked not only a milestone for these individuals who had been prohibited from joining their graduation ceremonies due to gender identity and expression or forced to conform to outward appearances inconsistent with their sexual orientation, among others, but also a testament to Quezon City’s commitment to inclusivity and equality.

Mayor Joy Belmonte led the special graduation rites, describing it as historic given its coincidence with the city’s 85th founding anniversary and celebration of Pride Month. It was heartwarming to see her emphasize that QC has become the first local government unit in the country to conduct a symbolic ceremony that gives members of the LGBTQIA+ community the opportunity to march as their authentic selves.

As I looked around, I saw individuals from all walks of life gathered together, united by their shared experiences and struggles. The atmosphere was electric with excitement and hope for a brighter future where everyone can live freely without fear of discrimination or persecution.

The oldest “rainbow graduate” was 75 years old – a testament to the power of resilience and determination in the face of adversity. It’s stories like these that remind us that age is just a number, and that it’s never too late for anyone to find their true selves and live authentically.

As I watched the graduates march proudly, holding hands with friends and loved ones, I couldn’t help but feel grateful for this momentous occasion. It was a celebration of life, love, and identity – a reminder that we are all worthy of respect, dignity, and acceptance regardless of our gender expression or sexual orientation.

In an era where inclusivity is more important than ever before, events like these serve as beacons of hope for a brighter future where everyone can thrive. As I left the Quezon Memorial Circle on Saturday evening, I felt inspired to continue fighting for equality and justice – knowing that every step forward brings us closer to a world where love knows no bounds.
